Hair removal, it is as old as the road to Rome. Shaving and waxing, the 2 most commonly used methods, provide quick results, but often cause skin irritation and the smooth skin is short-lived. Often annoying stubble has grown back within a few days after shaving, so that shaving has to be done again with an even greater chance of skin irritation.
Then suddenly there was sugaring, a technique to remove hair with a sugar paste.
The technique has many advantages, such as disinfecting the skin, less pain during the treatment and no irritation for people with sensitive skin. The hair stays away longer than when the skin is shaved, yet the result is temporary and the treatment will have to be repeated regularly. Fortunately, there was the solution: the IPL treatment.
IPL stands for "Intense Pulsed Light" and has been proven to be effective in a variety of procedures, including concentrated energy hair removal. An IPL treatment can also be very effective for treatments with skin pigment and rosacea. However, IPL is mainly used for depilation of various body areas.
How is an IPL treatment performed?
The IPL treatment starts with shaving the area to be treated, after which a cool contact gel is applied to the skin. A specially trained therapist uses light pulses on the skin. A luminous flux is converted into heat and led to the hair via the pigment. The heat destroys the hair, and the hair follicles do not grow back in that spot, while the surrounding skin and tissues are not damaged. This process is completely painless, you hardly feel the pulses and even after the treatment is finished there is no irritation of the skin giving you redness and reactions.
When to start with ipl hair removal?
The hair follicles have a growth cycle; these stages are the anagen, the catagen and the telogen stages. The most critical phase for permanent hair removal is the first phase, also called the anagen phase, where we can only permanently destroy these hair follicles. The hair in the anagen stage (first stage) is destroyed, comes loose, falls out on its own and does not grow back.
How many sessions are needed and is the hair permanently removed?
The total number of treatments may vary from person to person, as the hormone balance can change and differ for men and women. It can also change based on genetic predisposition. An average of nine IPL sessions are required, with intervals ranging from 4 to 8 weeks. After each treatment you will see results after about 2 to 3 weeks. Hair usually remains dormant for years, usually up to five or ten years. If there are hair follicles that come back, they can be treated with just a few sessions and will not return.
