Waarom kiezen voor IPL ontharen?

The removal treatment IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is an effective method for hair removal, but can also be used against pigmentation spots and acne. In this article we will discuss IPL hair removal in more detail. Excessive hair growth can be an acute problem for both men and women, and the cause is often hormonal, but can also be genetic. Excess hair can ruin your overall appearance and make you feel less confident.

How does an ipl hair removal work?

The light energy of IPL consists of a flash bulb that emits a very powerful flash of light. The pigment of the hairs absorbs this light and converts it into heat. The heat damages the hair follicles.

This treatment process is efficient, painless and gentle on the skin. An IPL treatment is most suitable for white skin with dark hair. Blonde, gray and red hair is less treatable because there is less pigment in the hair. Depilation of dark skin is better performed with a laser.

IPL hair removal for smooth skin

IPL hair removal can  only be started when the area to be treated has been shaved. Then a cool contact gel is applied to the skin. The specially trained therapist can then start applying the light pulses to the skin. The IPL hair removal process is completely painless, you hardly feel it and there is no skin irritation after the treatment.

An IPL hair removal treatment should be started in the anagen phase. During this phase, the hair follicle is best connected to the hair root. The IPL flash heats up the hair follicle, which destroys it and the hair roots will no longer create new hairs.

Because not all hairs are in the growth phase at the same time, it is necessary to undergo several treatments.

On average, nine treatments are required, spaced four to eight weeks apart. After every treatment of IPL hair removal you will see results after about two to three weeks. The hair follicles in the anagen phase are destroyed and then loosen and fall out on their own; they don't come back in your regular hair growth cycle.

The results after the treatments can last for years. Usually, hair follicles remain dormant for years and grow back after five to ten years. However, under the influence of hormones, it is possible that some hair growth will return. But even if they start to grow back, one new IPL treatment can be enough to create impeccably smooth skin again.

Advice after treatment

It is possible that after an IPL treatment the skin is slightly red or somewhat sensitive or that there is a slight swelling.

This is normal and will disappear on its own within a few hours or a day. If you suffer from this, you can cool the skin with cold compresses. Furthermore, the advice is not to exfoliate the skin, not to use perfumed skin products and to avoid the sun. You are not allowed in the sun or under a sunbed for at least 6 weeks. If the skin does come into the sun, use a sunscreen with factor 50.
